Wire (Re-Up)

Wire (engl. „Draht/Leitung“) sind eine Band, die im Oktober 1976 in London mit Punkrock begann, sich über diesen Rahmen jedoch rasch hinausentwickelte. Die Mitglieder sind Colin Newman (Voc., Git., Keyb.), Bruce Gilbert (Git., Voc., Synth.), Graham Lewis (Bass, Voc., Synth.), Robert Gotobed (Mark Fields) (Drums, Perc.) und George Gill (Git., verließ die Band vor Mannequin).
1991 verließ Robert Gotobed die Band, woraufhin diese sich in Wir umbenannte, jedoch keine nennenswerten Erfolge verbuchen konnte. Seit 2000 spielen die Gründungsmitglieder wieder unter dem Namen Wire. (wikipedia)


Wire gehörten mit Pere Ubu und einigen anderen zu den ersten, die die Grenzen des Punk ausloteten. Sie muteten ihren Fans mit den ständig wechselnden Stilen auf den Alben zwar einiges zu - jedoch hat jedes Album seine eigene Magie... - und zweifellos sind speziell die ersten 3 Alben 'Pink Flag', 'Chair's Missing' & '154' wegweisend für nachfolgende Bands gewesen.
